Start with the “where”. The on-device vs. cloud decision is your foundational choice. Get it right, and everything else becomes easier. Get it wrong, and you’ll be fighting against your own architecture for the entire lifecycle of the project.

Choose the right tool for the job. Don’t reach for the most complex tool when a simpler one will do. Start with high-level APIs like ML Kit and MediaPipe. Only move down into the depth and complexity of a custom LiteRT implementation when you truly need that level of control.
